GLASGLOW 2019
GLASGLOW
Glasglow is and event which takes place from the 25th of October until the 10th of November at Glasgow Botanic Gardens. It is a truly spectacular event and is being held for the second year in a row after great success in 2018. After experiencing the great night out last year I was eager to go again this year and it did not disappoint! Another perfect event for students within the Glasgow area!
The whole event is inspired by Halloween and in my opinion really gets me in the mood for autumn and winter time. This year Glasglow took us through 9 different worlds, all unique in their own way.
The
first world was definitely one of the best, it was named "The Patch".
It was filled with magnificent pumpkins that were carved with a variety of
shapes and designs from Donald Trump to a fire breathing dragon. Most the
pumpkins were made by members of the local community such as primary schools to
encourage them to get involved and for Glasglow to give back to the community,
they also gave away 1000 tickets to people who would otherwise not be able to
attend and also are continuing to raise money for a mini bus for Ruchill's
Autism Unit. After walking through the pumpkin patch, we came across the
"Pumpkin King" which really was huge and very humours. The whole of
world one just made us more excited to see what else there was in store and
definitely gave off Halloween vibes.
Moving on we were met with a
world which had definitely used the Netflix series "Stranger Things"
as its inspiration, having not seen the new series of Stranger Things some of
references were a bit confusing but still remained obvious that it was inspired
by the series none the less. This part was amazing to the point I didn’t want
to leave, it was filled with bubbles floating about the entire area and turning
to smoke when they popped, I’ve personally never seen so many adults amused by
bubbles popping before but everyone was engrossed with it nobody wanted to leave.
Another favourite world mine was “Marshmallow Land” having a real
sweet tooth I was in my element and got the “classic campfire” which was 5 of
their standard marshmallows for £2.50 to roast over the fire – they also had a
selection of jumbo marshmallows, marshmallows stuffed with Rolos and a vegan option!
This was such a lovely setting to sit
and have a break in, filled with twinkly fairy lights the magical atmosphere continued.
Moving on to the land with all the food! There was a huge
selection and definitely provided something for everyone such as hamburgers, hot dogs and deserts. Having filled up on marshmallows I didn’t actually buy anything from
the food stalls however my boyfriend did get the large portion of churros from
the stall the “Loop and Scoop” have and he certainly enjoyed them! This area
was slightly over crowded however we did manage to get a seat eventually to
watch the light show which was very enjoyable!
Despite having such a good night overall I did feel the last few
worlds didn’t carry as much enjoyment as all of the others did, They included a
haunted house, a party palace and one being an advertisement for their upcoming
events it just didn’t grasp our attention as much and I feel didn’t match the
quality of the rest of them, especially the party palace, walking in to loud
music and a huge disco ball definitely created a build up of excitement to see
the rest of it but there was simply nothing else inside.
Overall I 100% enjoyed the event and I look forward to experiencing events similar to it and seeing how they will make it bigger and even better next year!
